The Candelaria’s theater

The Candelaria’s theater had created several national plays and presented them in national festivals, and international festivals demonstrating Colombian and others nation’s cultures. It was founded in 1966 from a group of artists of all around Colombia. Since the beginning of the theater group La Candelaria is an overriding concern was to work for public access to the theater and popular ownership of the national drama. Adaptations of works were made as “soldados” and the national Alvaro Cepeda Samudio “padre”, directed by Carlos José Reyes and some experiments that were named Magic, who were free to create experiences together between theater people and artists of the plastic. In this moment it’s located at the historical Candelaria´s zone. As the Candelaria’s theater and near it is the “casa de la cultura” which is painted with street art and on its top there is a phrase that said:curtain of the time, images of dreams, dancing more than running the wind, harmony and color display”, by Sone, demonstrates as good as well the significance of dramatization.

There, you can visit the “Plaza de Chorro de Quevedo” where you can find the place where Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada founded at first Bogotá on August 6 of 1538, later he ratified this act on April 27 of 1539 were now days is Plaza de Bolivar. In this place there is a hermit named San Miguel del Principe was constructed by Eduardo Mendoza Varela for “La Fundación Candelaria”on 1971. Also is the place of a fountain named “Chorro de Quevedo” were years before was where the people who lived near took pure water for their needs.

In the Candelaria streets you can find colonial houses, but also houses painted with street art, is the case of the “cultural house” near the Candelaria’s theater. But there is not only painted street art, but also there are sculptured street art, that you can found if you observe on the houses roofs.
